  Tai Chi is a fluid sequence of movements choreographed in a low impact routine. The practice of Tai Chi focuses on the mind/body connection. This state of active meditation provides tranquillity and is achieved when movements are coordinated with mental awareness. All movements are practiced in a relaxed manner. The practice of Tai Chi has evolved into a self-healing art due to its many health related benefits. This program is an effective training method for stress relief, osteoarthritis, and provides better concentration, circulation and balance in adults.

  Come and join us for stimulating walks through the Sintra mountains and along the coast. Meet new friends and enjoy spectacular scenery while exercising. You should be fit enough to walk for 2-3 hours at a reasonable pace, mostly off road, along trails that can include steep slopes and slippery and uneven terrain. Suitable clothing and footwear is recommended.

  For information regarding a particular walk, please contact the leader for each walk listed.  We have different meeting places, so check before setting out!

  INFORMATION FOR IWP OUTDOOR GROUP ACTIVITIES
  Please bring your own: water, hat, clothing, walking poles, snack, mask and disinfectant to the group activity.

  PLEASE NOTE:

  1. Walk participants must be members of IWP.
  2. A guest may participate in no more than two Association activities or events before applying for membership and shall be informed of this when registering for any events or activities.
  3. The walk takes about 2-3 hours so plan accordingly.
  4. Wear practical footwear as terrain is most often uneven. If you use walking sticks bring them.
  5. Due to bad weather conditions or other reasons we may change the venue of a walk until Thursday before the walk, so check your email.
  6. Due to bad weather conditions (too wet or too hot as determined by the leader of the walk) or other reasons, a walk may be cancelled until 9:00 am the day of the walk. Please check your emails.
  7. Although we have different meeting places, the start is always at 10:30 am, until we change to a summer schedule. It will be announced and noted on the schedule.
  8. And about the dogs, you already know! Your dog must be kept on a leash. No stretch/flexi leashes are allowed. Poo pickup is a must!

  Join us in the rare book library at the Avner Cohen Casa Chabad in Cascais for a fascinating and lesser-known aspect of World War II history.

  As the Portuguese Consul General in Bordeaux, France, during the outbreak of WWII, Aristides de Sousa Mendes was confronted with the desperation of thousands of Jews trying to escape the horrors of the Nazi regime.

  From May to June 1940, Sousa Mendes, took it upon himself to write visas that allowed thousands of refugees to exit France and transit through Portugal as they made their way to freedom in other parts of the world.  Aristides de Sousa Mendes is honoured at the National Pantheon in Lisbon.

  Scholar Rabbi Eli Rosenfeld, along with Cookie Fischer will discuss this man's sacrifice and the historical implications for the thousands of people he saved.

  Classified as a national monument in 2007, Belém Palace became the official residence of the president of Portugal after the foundation of the Republic in 1910. This former property of the count of Aveiras was bought by King João V in 1726 to serve as his holiday residence and remained in the royal family's possession until 1908.

  On this tour, art historian and guide António Simões takes us through Lisbon's main railway stations, exploring the history of the railway, its infrastructure and architecture, as well as many other aspects and curiosities.

  Starting at Rossio Central Station, we continue to Campolide Station, where we take the Azambuja line towards Gare do Oriente, ending this tour at Santa Apolónia Station.

  Join your fellow IWP members for Ballet at the Cinema. The Royal Ballet and Opera in Covent Garden, London, presents “Woolf Works,” an experimental ballet triptych inspired by the genre-defying works and writings of Virginia Woolf. 

  “Woolf Works” is choreographed by resident choreographer Wayne McGregor and set to an original score by Max Richter.

  One of the most groundbreaking writers of the 20^th century, Virginia Woolf defied literary conventions to depict rich inner worlds – her heightened, startling, and poignant reality. Moving away from traditional narrative storytelling, “Woolf Works” evokes Woolf’s stream-of-consciousness writing style with a collage of themes from Mrs. Dalloway, Orlando, and The Waves. 

  Price: Cascais 13€, Lisbon 15€. The event captains for Cascais and Lisbon will contact registrants directly regarding preferred seating and a group meal before the opera for those who are interested.
