  Tai Chi is a fluid sequence of movements choreographed in a low impact routine. The practice of Tai Chi focuses on the mind/body connection. This state of active meditation provides tranquillity and is achieved when movements are coordinated with mental awareness. All movements are practiced in a relaxed manner. The practice of Tai Chi has evolved into a self-healing art due to its many health related benefits. This program is an effective training method for stress relief, osteoarthritis, and provides better concentration, circulation and balance in adults.

  Come and join us for stimulating walks through the Sintra mountains and along the coast. Meet new friends and enjoy spectacular scenery while exercising. You should be fit enough to walk for 2-3 hours at a reasonable pace, mostly off road, along trails that can include steep slopes and slippery and uneven terrain. Suitable clothing and footwear is recommended.

  For information regarding a particular walk, please contact the leader for each walk listed.  We have different meeting places, so check before setting out!

  INFORMATION FOR IWP OUTDOOR GROUP ACTIVITIES
  Please bring your own: water, hat, clothing, walking poles, snack, mask and disinfectant to the group activity.

  PLEASE NOTE:

  1. Walk participants must be members of IWP.
  2. A guest may participate in no more than two Association activities or events before applying for membership and shall be informed of this when registering for any events or activities.
  3. The walk takes about 2-3 hours so plan accordingly.
  4. Wear practical footwear as terrain is most often uneven. If you use walking sticks bring them.
  5. Due to bad weather conditions or other reasons we may change the venue of a walk until Thursday before the walk, so check your email.
  6. Due to bad weather conditions (too wet or too hot as determined by the leader of the walk) or other reasons, a walk may be cancelled until 9:00 am the day of the walk. Please check your emails.
  7. Although we have different meeting places, the start is always at 10:30 am, until we change to a summer schedule. It will be announced and noted on the schedule.
  8. And about the dogs, you already know! Your dog must be kept on a leash. No stretch/flexi leashes are allowed. Poo pickup is a must!
  9. International Women in Portugal (IWP) and its volunteers are not responsible or liable for any injuries that participants (members, associates and guests) may incur during any of its activities, events or excursions.

  Lucinda (Cindy) Trozze has volunteered to start a beginner/intermediate photography group, which will meet on the first Tuesday of every month at the Mercado da Vila at 12h30. Other meeting times will be arranged within the group based on photo shoot opportunities, time of year and weather. These outings will be close to Cascais and easily accessible by walking or public transport.

  This month, we’re inviting you on a slightly different – and more budget-friendly – adventure to Évora! Instead of a private bus, we’ll be traveling just like the locals do: by public train or bus. It’s all part of the experience, and the journey through the Alentejo countryside is a beautiful one. Of course do car share or plan a trip to stay overnight to add to the experience.

  Our tour officially begins at 10:30 at the Central Bus Station in Évora. Marie, our knowledgeable local guide, will take us on a captivating walking tour through the historic center of Évora. Highlights include the awe-inspiring Cathedral and the hauntingly beautiful Chapel of Bones — entrance tickets are included in the tour price.

  For lunch you will receive a  list of restaurant suggestions, and have free time to enjoy a relaxed meal and perhaps explore the local shops. In the afternoon we will regroup for your choice of two experiences:

  • A free guided visit to the powerful and thought-provoking Inquisition Palace Exhibition
  •  Or a wine tasting featuring four distinctive Alentejo wines (additional €5, payable on the day)

  We’ll aim to catch a return bus or train to Lisbon around 17:00, arriving back in Lisbon about two hours later. Martina will provide more info in advance of trip.

  Persistence and Resilence - Exploring Great Women Artists  

  Please join us as IWP Member Michele Whiting discusses women artists - their lives, stories and works.  Drawing on biographical details, and particular compositions, she will shine a light on the persistent endeavours of great women, such as Frida Kahlo, Louise Bourgeois and Charlotte Salamon, amongst others.

  Michele is currently a Senior Lecturer and Programme Tutor for Fine Art at Open University (OCA) and co-steers Space Place Practice which is an artistic practice research network. www.spaceplacepractice.com  She also collaborates in Quilos and the Windmill, www.quilosandthewindmill.com

  Michele has exhibited her work widely - in the UK, Sweden, USA, and Portugal, both for private and business commissions and work being held in private collections.
