Following an 18-year career in IT with Fortune 500 companies and having recovered from a life-threatening illness, IWP member Wendy Shapiro decided to shift her life to follow some long standing dreams. This included working overseas with the US Peace Corps. It was the beginning of a fascination with exploring and understanding other cultures and learning how to best contribute to empower others. Her work took her to Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia, and Timor-Leste in Southeast Asia - and it crossed both cultural and generational boundaries. It was, to paraphrase the Peace Corps tagline, “the toughest job you’ll ever love”! Join us in learning about the Peace Corps, about Wendy’s amazing journey overseas, and her commitment in various roles to helping people and governments in other countries.
