SINTRA WALKS CALENDAR FOR  2026

For information regarding a particular walk, please contact the leader for each walk listed below.

Come and join us for stimulating walks through the Sintra mountains and along the coast. Meet new friends and enjoy spectacular scenery while exercising. You should be fit enough to walk for 2-3 hours at a reasonable pace, mostly off road, along trails that can include steep slopes and slippery and uneven terrain. Suitable clothing and footwear is recommended.

Location –Malveira da Serra

Driving Directions:  Coming from Cascais, in Malveira de Serra turn right after Panisol and SPAR market.  Next, turn left at the sign to Pena Palace and Penha Longa (among others) and go up the hill less than 1km. Park around the fountain on left side of road.

Driving Directions:  From Cascais take the n 9-1 in the direction of Malveira da Serra.   About one

km past the big Repsol station take a right at the roundabout with a sign for Murches.  At the second roundabout take a right. Follow that road into Murches and continue straight through a rotunda keeping the Panisol on your left.   The parque is a further half km on your left.

Location – Pisão

Meeting point: Quinta do Pisão interior parking lot. Inside the grounds, after the entry gate turn right and continue about half a km to the large dirt parking lot on the left just by the gate that is often closed and prevents you from going further.

Driving directions:  From Cascais take EN247 to Malveira da Serra. In Malveira look for the Spar supermarket and turn right immediately past the market. In about 20 meters turn left at the sign for Penha Longa. Take this road for about 5 kms until you see Quinta do Pisão clearly signposted on the right.

Alternatively, you can take the motorway past Cascais Shopping and past the Beloura Shopping Center (A16).  At the second roundabout past Beloura Shopping Center (now a school), reverse direction and return until you see a sign on the right for Penha Longa. Turn there and follow the road to just past the Penha Longa complex to the sign for Quinta do Pisao on the left

Driving Directions: Take the EN 247 from Cascais in the direction of Sintra. About 6 kms beyond the turnoff for Azoia you will see a sign for Almoçageme – left turn. Follow that road for less than a kilometer and you will see the market square and fountain on the left.  You can park in the square.

INFORMATION FOR IWP OUTDOOR GROUP ACTIVITIES

Please bring your own:  water, hat, clothing, walking poles, snack, mask and disinfectant to the group activity.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. Walk participants must be members of IWP.

2. A guest may participate in no more than two Association activities or events before applying for membership and shall be informed of this when registering for any events or activities.

3. The walk takes about 2-3 hours so plan accordingly.

4. Wear practical footwear as terrain is most often uneven. If you use walking sticks bring them.

5. Due to bad weather conditions or other reasons we may change the venue of a walk until Thursday before the walk, so check your email.

6. Due to bad weather conditions (too wet or too hot as determined by the leader of the walk) or other reasons, a walk may be cancelled until 9:00 am the day of the walk. Please check your email.

7. Although we have different meeting places, the start is always at 10:30 am, until we change to a summer schedule. It will be announced and noted on the schedule.

8. And about the dogs, you already know! Your dog must be kept on a leash. No stretch/flexi leashes are allowed. Poo pickup is a must! International Women in Portugal (IWP) and its volunteers are not responsible or liable for any injuries that participants (members, associates and guests) may incur during any of its activities, events or excursions.
