SINTRA WALKS CALENDAR FOR  2026

For information regarding a particular walk, please contact the leader for each walk listed below.

Come and join us for stimulating walks through the Sintra mountains and along the coast. Meet new friends and enjoy spectacular scenery while exercising. You should be fit enough to walk for 2-3 hours at a reasonable pace, mostly off road, along trails that can include steep slopes and slippery and uneven terrain. Suitable clothing and footwear is recommended.

Location –Guincho, Abano

Driving Directions:  You can go to Malveira de Serra and then take the road (N247) from Malveira da Serra towards Guincho. Before you get to the beach there is a turn off on the right to the Guincho Bar and praia de Abano.  Follow that dirt road until you arrive at a parking lot on the left.  About 500 meters.

Alternatively, you can also take the scenic coastal route past Guincho beach and then the turn off will be on your left. Or you can go through Areia.

Location –Malveira da Serr

Driving Directions:  Coming from Cascais, in Malveira de Serra turn right after Panisol and SPAR market.  Next, turn left at the sign to Pena Palace and Penha Longa (among others) and go up the hill less than 1km. Park around the fountain on left side of road.

Location – Capuchos area

Driving Directions: Take N247 from Cascais passing the turnoff for Azoia/Cabo da Roca and about 4 kms further as you enter Pé da Serra you will see a sign for Convento dos Capuchos on the right.  Take this road which will lead directly to a large intersection of roads.  Take the hard left and the road will lead to the Capuchos car park.

Location –Parque Urbano do Jamor

Meeting Place: Cruz Quebrada Train Station on the Cascais Line

Driving Directions: The best parking lot for the drivers will be revealed at a  later date.

INFORMATION FOR IWP OUTDOOR GROUP ACTIVITIES

Please bring your own:  water, hat, clothing, walking poles, snack, mask and disinfectant to the group activity.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. Walk participants must be members of IWP.

2. A guest may participate in no more than two Association activities or events before applying for membership and shall be informed of this when registering for any events or activities.

3. The walk takes about 2-3 hours so plan accordingly.

4. Wear practical footwear as terrain is most often uneven. If you use walking sticks bring them.

5. Due to bad weather conditions or other reasons we may change the venue of a walk until Thursday before the walk, so check your email.

6. Due to bad weather conditions (too wet or too hot as determined by the leader of the walk) or other reasons, a walk may be cancelled until 9:00 am the day of the walk. Please check your email.

7. Although we have different meeting places, the start is always at 10:30 am, until we change to a summer schedule. It will be announced and noted on the schedule.

8. And about the dogs, you already know! Your dog must be kept on a leash. No stretch/flexi leashes are allowed. Poo pickup is a must! International Women in Portugal (IWP) and its volunteers are not responsible or liable for any injuries that participants (members, associates and guests) may incur during any of its activities, events or excursions.
