SINTRA WALKS CALENDAR FOR  2025

For information regarding a particular walk, please contact the leader for each walk listed below.

Come and join us for stimulating walks through the Sintra mountains and along the coast. Meet new friends and enjoy spectacular scenery while exercising. You should be fit enough to walk for 2-3 hours at a reasonable pace, mostly off road, along trails that can include steep slopes and slippery and uneven terrain. Suitable clothing and footwear is recommended.

Location –Malveira da Serra, Guincho

Driving Directions: If you take the N9-1 from Cascais (R. de Cascais) you need to follow the  N247 back towards Guincho and not on towards Cabo da Roca when you reach Malveira.  The Sports grounds will be on your right.

If you take the Guincho road (N247) directly from Cascais

Location –Praia do Abano area

Driving Directions:  You can go to Malveira de Serra and then take the road (N247) from Malveira da Serra towards Guincho. Before you get to the beach there is a turn off on the right to the Guincho Bar and praia de Abano.  Follow that dirt road until you arrive at a parking lot on the left.  About 500 meters.

Alternatively, you can also take the scenic coastal route past Guincho beach and then the turn off will be on your left.

Location –Colares

Driving directions: Take the EN 247 from Cascais in the direction of Sintra for about 18kms.  When entering Colares turn left to go over the bridge where there are several signposts for the beaches. Follow the road for about half a km until you see a playground on your right - across the street from the Pomarinho market.  We meet behind the playground and the junta de freguesia. It will take less than 30 minutes to arrive there.

Driving Directions: Take the A5 towards Lisbon. Get off at Exit 2 towards Estrada do Penedo. At the first roundabout take the first exit to stay on Estr do Penedo. At the second roundabout take the first exit. At the third roundabout, take the third exit to enter the road leading to the Jardim dos Montes Claros. There is lots of parking.  This route has a toll at Carcavelos.

The second driving option is to take the marginal where you go from Belem through Aguda and into Monsanto.

There are also buses (723, 729, 771) that go from Belem and stop at Montes Claros.  From there, it is a short walk to the start location.

INFORMATION FOR IWP OUTDOOR GROUP ACTIVITIES

Please bring your own:  water, hat, clothing, walking poles, snack, mask and disinfectant to the group activity.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. Walk participants must be members of IWP.

2. A guest may participate in no more than two Association activities or events before applying for membership and shall be informed of this when registering for any events or activities.

3. The walk takes about 2-3 hours so plan accordingly.

4. Wear practical footwear as terrain is most often uneven. If you use walking sticks bring them.

5. Due to bad weather conditions or other reasons we may change the venue of a walk until Thursday before the walk, so check your email.

6. Due to bad weather conditions (too wet or too hot as determined by the leader of the walk) or other reasons, a walk may be cancelled until 9:00 am the day of the walk. Please check your email.

7. Although we have different meeting places, the start is always at 10:30 am, until we change to a summer schedule. It will be announced and noted on the schedule.

8. And about the dogs, you already know! Your dog must be kept on a leash. No stretch/flexi leashes are allowed. Poo pickup is a must!
