SINTRA WALKS CALENDAR FOR  2025

Come and join us for stimulating walks through the Sintra mountains and along the coast. Meet new friends and enjoy spectacular scenery while exercising. You should be fit enough to walk for 2-3 hours at a reasonable pace, mostly off road, along trails that can include steep slopes and slippery and uneven terrain. Suitable clothing and footwear is recommended.

Location –Mula Dam/Serra da Sintra.  We will walk up to capuchos on the trail with all the wooden bridges

Driving Directions:  Take N9-1 from Cascais to Malveira da Serra. Immediately after

passing the SPAR supermarket on the right hand side, turn to the right and in

about 50 meters you will see several signposts on your left. Follow the sign for Penha Longa and continue on this road for about 4 kms. The road to Mula Dam (left side) is almost exactly across from the entrance to Quinta do Pisão. Turn left. The parking lot entrance is on the left before you get to the top of the dam.  If you end up at the top (end of the road) it is not a worry.  You can park there and walk down the steps to where we are meeting or else you can drive back to the lower parking area.

Driving Directions: In Malveira da Serra turn right after Panisol and SPAR market. Next, turn right at Rua do Cancelo. It is across from the Estrela da Serra restaurant and there are trash bins there on the corner.

Driving directions: Take N247 from Cascais passing the turnoff for Azoia/Cabo da Roca and about 4 kms further as you enter Pé da Serra you will see a sign for Convento dos Capuchos on the right.  Take this road which will lead directly to a large intersection of roads.  Take the hard left and the road will lead to the Capuchos car park.

Location –   Quinta do Pisão:  Since this is Halloween we will have a potluck lunch in Pisão after the walk.  Bring your party spirit.  You can wear a costume if it suits you.  Bring halloween themed food (don’t really know what that means but you can be creative).  Bring some candy and I will bring some bags só we can all have a trick or treat collection of sweets.  Hope we have a lovely fall day.

Meeting place: Quinta do Pisão interior parking lot. Inside the grounds, after the entry gate turn right and continue about half a km to the large dirt parking lot on the left just by the gate that is often closed and prevents you from going further.

Driving directions:  From Cascais take EN247 to Malveira da Serra. In Malveira look for the Spar supermarket and turn right immediately past the market. In about 20 meters turn left at the sign for Penha Longa. Take this road for about 5 kms until you see Quinta do Pisão clearly signposted on the right.

INFORMATION FOR IWP OUTDOOR GROUP ACTIVITIES

Please bring your own:  water, hat, clothing, walking poles, snack, mask and disinfectant to the group activity.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. Walk participants must be members of IWP.

2. A guest may participate in no more than two Association activities or events before applying for membership and shall be informed of this when registering for any events or activities.

3. The walk takes about 2-3 hours so plan accordingly.

4. Wear practical footwear as terrain is most often uneven. If you use walking sticks bring them.

5. Due to bad weather conditions or other reasons we may change the venue of a walk until Thursday before the walk, so check your email.

6. Due to bad weather conditions (too wet or too hot as determined by the leader of the walk) or other reasons, a walk may be cancelled until 9:00 am the day of the walk. Please check your email.

7. Although we have different meeting places, the start is always at 10:30 am, until we change to a summer schedule. It will be announced and noted on the schedule.

8. And about the dogs, you already know! Your dog must be kept on a leash. No stretch/flexi leashes are allowed. Poo pickup is a must! International Women in Portugal (IWP) and its volunteers are not responsible or liable for any injuries that participants (members, associates and guests) may incur during any of its activities, events or excursions.
