Portugal and Spain: brothers in arms and in heart
We are pleased to announce that the History Talks will now also be held in Lisbon starting on Tuesday, March 17. The venue is Good Company Bookstore, which is an independent English language bookstore which also has a cafe with coffee, a wine bar and small bites. Feel free to bring your wine or coffee downstairs to the meeting room or to relax and chat after the presentation.
Ines Ribeiro will present from the beginning of the series.
In 1143, Alfonso VII, King of León and Castile, signed the Treaty of Zamora and recognized Afonso Henriques as King of Portugal! And so was born this new Iberian kingdom whose history will always be linked to the other peninsular kingdoms, in an eternal relationship of love and hate, so characteristic of the brothers... We'll talk about how Portugal was born, the king who "mistreated" the Castilian mother, the kings who created our borders and how they managed to assert their nationality between wars and marriages with "our brothers".
A journey through Portugal's history in which we understand why we are so different yet so similar in the way we live…
