We will meet our guide at the Sintra train station at 10h30 and then walk together for about 15 minutes to the location. Our guide will use this time to give us a general introduction to Sintra and its history.
The Biester Palace itself is located in the historical center of Sintra. The building is considered as one of the finest examples of architecture inspired by Romanticism in Portugal. Built in 1880 as the residence of Ernesto Biester, a wealthy merchant, journalist and playwright, this neo-gothic palace has been decorated by the most talented artists of their time. After having been closed for many years, it was recently restored to its former glory and opened to the public only in April 2022. The Palace is surrounded by a beautiful park with lush and exotic vegetation, ponds, fountains and seating areas, and also has a cave whose interior features ceramic tiles by Bordalo Pinheiro.
Cost excludes the entrance fee to the Palace. Ticket costs are:
Under 65 = 12€
Over 65 = 7€
