Lisbon has a very important African history in Europe. Portugal played a central role in the trade of African slaves, introducing thousands of foreigners into the country during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. They were responsible for everyday life tasks as well as economic activities, helping to increase their owners' income. Lisbon was actually the first capital in Europe having an African neighborhood. We will discover the history of the African presence in the city, through representative characters, and we will also discover together the "invisible" places of slavery.
