Lisbon Speaker Series - An Introduction to Scaffolding Portuguese to English
This presentation is especially designed for English speakers who are interested in studying Portuguese but have limited experience in studying a foreign language. The aim of the course is not to teach Portuguese, but to review some of the basics of English grammar and to introduce some of the similarities and differences between English and Portuguese.
The germ of this course goes back to Judith's early years teaching when she decided to study Japanese in order to better understand her primarily Asian students who were learning a language with no connection to their native tongue. As an adult foreign language learner, she has found it helpful to "scaffold" or attach new materials to the framework of her native English in order to visualize the structure of the new language. She hopes that you will find this presentation of interest and welcomes your feedback.
Feel free to bring your wine or coffee downstairs to the meeting room or to relax and chat after the presentation. Good Company Bookstore is an independent English language bookstore which also has a cafe and wine bar with small bites. Good Company Bookstore is located near Campo Pequeno metro station (yellow line) or a few blocks walk from Saldanha station (yellow and red lines)
Speakers will present from 18:30 to 20:00.
