"Restoring & Preserving Art and Architecture"

IWP member Tody Cesar will be speaking about her career as an accomplished Conservator of Works of Art. Her work has taken her to England, Chennai (India), Kosovo, Beijing (China), Ireland, Tibet, Croatia and Portugal. Her experience is diverse and impressive.  She restores centuries-old monuments, ceilings, walls, doors, painted surfaces, small objects (including ceramics, glass, metals, wood, and stone), and more - using a wide variety of materials. Tory was born in New York City and has lived in many countries. In 1998 she moved to Portugal for a restoration job and still lives in Lisbon, working as an independent consultant.

Tody Cesar studied Conservation and Restoration at the City & Guilds of London Art School, Archeological Conservation at UCL, Chemistry & Museum Studies at Harvard University, Art Education at Southern CT. State College, and Art History, Studio Art & Intellectual History at Drew University. Her writings have appeared in numerous publications.

She has worked in many locations including the British Museum, Madras Craft Foundation in Chennai, India, Salisbury Cathedral in England, the Institute Zavod za Restauriranje Umjetnina in Zagreb, Croatia, Shelburne Museum in Vermont, Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, the Sackler Museum in Beijing, China, the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, and the Peabody and Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. Tody offers group workshops in repairing and restoring objects and furniture.
