Please join us on our next day trip to one of the country’s most historic cities: Coimbra.
Once the country’s capital, Coimbra is home to centuries-old monuments and is especially renowned for its university, founded in 1290 and today a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As with our last day trip to Evora, we’re keeping it budget-friendly and leaving transportation up to you. Being an university town, Coimbra is very well connected — frequent FlixBus and Rede Expressos coaches run from Lisbon’s Oriente and Sete Rios stations, and even from Cascais (behind the CascaiShopping).
There are plenty of return options in the late afternoon. You might even consider car sharing or staying overnight to enjoy the city at a slower pace.

We’ll meet at 11:00 at Coimbra’s central bus station and begin our guided walk through the historic centre. Highlights include the visit of the Santa Cruz Monastery, the final resting place of Portugal’s first two kings, famous for its richly decorated Manueline church and cloisters.
We will also visit one of the best preserved churches in Portugal, the Sé Velha Cathedral.
After free time for lunch we will continue with a visit to the world-famous Coimbra University, one of the oldest universities in Europe and in the world. Our tour includes the visit to the university chapel of São Miguel and to the stunning baroque Joanina Library, one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.
We will finish around 16:00, leaving you time to catch a return bus to Lisbon and Cascais.
