"Tai chi could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life".

Harvard Health, May 2022.

IWP member Nancy Saum presents Qigong. Qigong (pronounced chi-kung) is the great-grandmother of Tai Chi. It is an ancient, Chinese, mindful moving practice that is relaxing and very easy to follow (no experience needed). It can be done sitting or standing. It doesn’t require strength, flexibility, or balance (though regular practice can help improve these things). In the West, Tai Chi is the more familiar practice and often involves a complex sequence of steps and movements, which can take quite some time to learn. We will practice an "easy" form of Tai Chi. The deep relaxation of both these practices maximizes the body's natural healing capacity. You move, breathing deeply and naturally, focusing your attention - just as you do in mindfulness meditation — on breath and bodily sensations.

(No special clothing or equipment needed. Just wear something that doesn't restrict movement.)

Nancy Saum, MS, a retired holistic nurse, has over 12 years continuous experience teaching Qigong and Tai Chi EasyTM since retiring from nursing and the Army Reserves in 2011.

Nancy completed 200-hour Qigong and Tai Chi EasyTM teacher training in 2004, became a Senior Trainer in 2012, and completed a study tour to China in 2013. Additionally, Nancy has over 12 years of continuous experience teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) courses to hospital staff, military veterans, and the community (2003-2015) and incorporates principles of mindfulness in all of her movement classes.
