Portugal History Lovers - The Earthquake of 1755

Friday, November 8th

10:00 - 12:00

On November 1st, 1755, the earth shook violently in Lisbon and throughout Portugal. The city fell, was flooded by a tsunami and burnt for days, while its inhabitants watched powerless and a Marquis issued the orders that would restore Lisbon again.  Architects and engineers worked together to rebuild the city and once again Lisbon shows off their geniuses.

But we all know this part of the story. What we don't know is how the earthquake changed the lives of the survivors, how important faith was in their survival, but how, at the same time, philosophers questioned the presence of God in this unparalleled catastrophe...

But this was not the first earthquake to hit Lisbon, nor will it be the last. The history of this city and the south of the Iberian Peninsula is marked by these natural events and so we have adapted, because our passion for the land has always been greater!
