The Military Museum might be one of the best kept secrets of Lisbon.
As the oldest museum in the city, it is housed in a stunning palace-like building that formerly served as the Royal Arsenal. It offers a deep and enriching look into Portugal’s military history, from the historic battles since the Christian Reconquista period to World War I.
It hosts one of the largest collections of bronze artillery pieces in the world. Additional collections are spread over 33 different rooms, which are architectural treasures in themselves, designed in a baroque style.
MEETING POINT: Museu Militar de Lisboa R. do Museu de Artilharia 51, 1100-366 Lisbon
Price: €16 incl. audioguides plus entrance to the museum
