The National Palace of Queluz

Tuesday, August 20th

10:30 - 13:00

Lush and imposing, Queluz was the royal palace of choice for three generations of the Portuguese Royal Family. Known as the “Portuguese Versailles”, it was built in the 18th century, reflecting the evolution in tastes and styles from Baroque to Rococo to Neoclassicism. Retreat for D. Maria I, official residence for D. João VI, it saw the royal family leave for Brazil because of the French invasions. After the return of the court, it was the golden exile of D. Carlota Joaquina and the residence of her beloved son D. Miguel during his brief reign, and it was also here that her eldest son D. Pedro IV would eventually die, in the same room where he was born 35 years earlier.

Join us on this guided tour discover this beautiful palace, listening to these and many more stories of events which took place there.
