Located in Belém and administered by the Portuguese navy, this beautiful but relatively unknown museum is dedicated to all aspects of the history of navigation in Portugal. The guided tour will lead us from the beginning of the Portuguese maritime expansion to the routes that introduced Europeans to the world. We will learn about the creation of the Portuguese navy, the routes the fishermen had to take to catch codfish, and also about the big maritime business of the Portuguese slave trade. A special part of the museum even houses life-size ships and the luxurious royal yacht ’Amelia’ of King Dom Carlos.
