Lisbon Speaker Series - March 2025

Located at Rua de Arroios 156, 1150-056 Lisbon. Balzac is close to the Arroios metro station on the Green line. From 16h00 - 16h30, participants will be able to order drinks, including cocktails, and small plates such as spinach dip with truffle oil, duck or shrimp bruschetta and ceviche. The Speaker will present from 16h30 - 18h00. Limited to 25 participants.

The Beauty of Lisbon - Tramway 28, A voyage through History

Presenter: Nysse Arruda

Journalist and author Nysse Arruda will present the material of her book of this same name,  which covers +2500 years of History of the Portuguese capital along the route of the tramway 28. The iconic yellow tramway crosses the city from west to east and encompasses more than 2,500 years of history of the Portuguese capital.  

Phoenician, Roman and Arab remains can be seen along the route, as well as examples of Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture in the various churches and buildings, in addition to the symmetry of the unmistakable lines of the Baixa Pombalina, designed by the Marquis of Pombal after the 1755 Earthquake. It also includes an important selection of historic buildings, theatres, museums, archaeological sites, gardens and viewpoints and some secrets that this beautiful city still hides. Historical facts that took place in various areas of the route will be narrated – such as Terreiro do Paço, for example – and important personalities of Portuguese culture will be evoked – such as the great poets Camões and Fernando Pessoa.
