Royal Treasury Museum and Crown Jewels

Thursday, November 28th

10:30 - 12:30

At Ajuda Palace.

Did you know that the Portuguese Crown was created for the coronation of King João VI in Brazil in 1816? And that one of the most extraordinary objects of the Portuguese Royal Treasure is a tiny tobacco box from King José, commissioned from the goldsmith of the French king Louis XV and containing over 900 diamonds and 200 emeralds? Or that one of the largest gold nuggets in the world, weighing 20 kg, was exhibited by King Luís at a ball in the Royal Palace of Ajuda? These are just some of the stories of the jewels, decorations and objects that once belonged to our royalty and which today belong to everyone. And it is at the Royal Treasure Museum that we can discover this extraordinary collection, which is not only measured by the quantity of gold and precious stones, but also by the artistic quality of the various pieces on display and the history they carry.
