THE BIG EARTHQUAKE OF 1755

Friday, February 16th

10:30 - 13:00

On November 1st, 1755, the earth shook violently in Lisbon and throughout Portugal. The city fell, was flooded by a tsunami and burnt for days, while its inhabitants watched powerless and a Minister of the kingdom issued the orders that would put Lisbon in order again. Join us on this walk and explore the before and after of this terrible catastrophe. Discover the great monuments that disappeared, the streets that were never seen again and hear the stories of those who survived. In the end, the Downtown will be waiting for us, a symbol of the Portuguese effort to rebuild its capital, the new city that has been welcoming visitors in all its beauty for the past 268 years.
