  Tai Chi is a fluid sequence of movements choreographed in a low impact routine. The practice of Tai Chi focuses on the mind/body connection. This state of active meditation provides tranquillity and is achieved when movements are coordinated with mental awareness. All movements are practiced in a relaxed manner. The practice of Tai Chi has evolved into a self-healing art due to its many health related benefits. This program is an effective training method for stress relief, osteoarthritis, and provides better concentration, circulation and balance in adults.

  Come and join us for stimulating walks through the Sintra mountains and along the coast. Meet new friends and enjoy spectacular scenery while exercising. You should be fit enough to walk for 2-3 hours at a reasonable pace, mostly off road, along trails that can include steep slopes and slippery and uneven terrain. Suitable clothing and footwear is recommended.

  For information regarding a particular walk, please contact the leader for each walk listed.  We have different meeting places, so check before setting out!

  INFORMATION FOR IWP OUTDOOR GROUP ACTIVITIES
  Please bring your own: water, hat, clothing, walking poles, snack, mask and disinfectant to the group activity.

  PLEASE NOTE:

  1. Walk participants must be members of IWP.
  2. A guest may participate in no more than two Association activities or events before applying for membership and shall be informed of this when registering for any events or activities.
  3. The walk takes about 2-3 hours so plan accordingly.
  4. Wear practical footwear as terrain is most often uneven. If you use walking sticks bring them.
  5. Due to bad weather conditions or other reasons we may change the venue of a walk until Thursday before the walk, so check your email.
  6. Due to bad weather conditions (too wet or too hot as determined by the leader of the walk) or other reasons, a walk may be cancelled until 9:00 am the day of the walk. Please check your emails.
  7. Although we have different meeting places, the start is always at 10:30 am, until we change to a summer schedule. It will be announced and noted on the schedule.
  8. And about the dogs, you already know! Your dog must be kept on a leash. No stretch/flexi leashes are allowed. Poo pickup is a must!

  In 1386, the Treaty of Windsor was signed, forging a lasting—though sometimes rocky—alliance between Portugal and England. While contact between the Iberian Peninsula and the British Isles goes back over a 1000 years, it was only with the birth of the Portuguese kingdom that their histories truly intertwined—through wars, royal marriages, traditions, and unique friendships.

  Through paintings, sculptures, jewellery, and objects, alongside the Fashion designs that connect with them. Art & Fashion offers a reflection on the role of Fashion as a cultural expression.

  This tour brings together haute couture pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries, in close dialogue with the permanent collection of the Gulbenkian Museum.

  Throughout the display, more than 100 works of art from the Collection are exhibited alongside 140 pieces of clothing designed by Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Guo Pei, Hubert de Givenchy and Azzedine Alaia and, on the national scene, by the duo Alves/Gonçalves, José António Tenente, Maria Gambina, Miguel Vieira, Nuno Gama and Nuno Baltazar.

  Have you ever imagined travelling underground in the city of Lisbon, passing through where the water that supplied the city once flowed?  We are going to take you back in time and show you an important part of the Águas Livres Aqueduct, starting in Vale de Alcântara (meeting point) and ending 2 hours later at the Mãe D'Água Reservoir (a 2 km route).

  If you're brave enough to take a slightly longer route and would like to visit the Aqueduct's only visitable underground gallery, you can opt for the 3-hour tour (3.5 km in total) which includes a visit to the Galeria do Loreto. In this option, the tour ends at the Patriarcal Reservoir, located in the Príncipe Real Garden.

  We know that arriving in a new country is challenging or even joining a new organisation. At IWP we have many opportunities for members to connect, but we would like to initiate  meet-ups, specifically for new members, both in Lisbon and Cascais.

  This is open to members who have recently joined IWP. We will limit attendance to allow attendees to get to know each other. Going forward we would like to organise on a regular basis as a first opportunity for new members to get to know IWP.

  We know that arriving in a new country is challenging or even joining a new organisation. At IWP we have many opportunities for members to connect, but we would like to initiate  meet-ups, specifically for new members, both in Lisbon and Cascais.

  This is open to members who have recently joined IWP. We will limit attendance to allow attendees to get to know each other. Going forward we would like to organise on a regular basis as a first opportunity to get to know IWP.

  Discover the history of the African presence in Lisbon....

  Lisbon has a very important African history in Europe. Portugal played a central role in the trade of African slaves, introducing thousands of foreigners into the country during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. They were responsible for everyday life tasks as well as economic activities, helping to increase their owners' income. Lisbon was actually the first capital in Europe having an African neighbourhood.

  We will discover the history of the African presence in the city, through representative characters, and we will also discover together the "invisible" places of slavery.
