  Tai Chi is a fluid sequence of movements choreographed in a low impact routine. The practice of Tai Chi focuses on the mind/body connection. This state of active meditation provides tranquillity and is achieved when movements are coordinated with mental awareness. All movements are practiced in a relaxed manner. The practice of Tai Chi has evolved into a self-healing art due to its many health related benefits. This program is an effective training method for stress relief, osteoarthritis, and provides better concentration, circulation and balance in adults.

  Come and join us for stimulating walks through the Sintra mountains and along the coast. Meet new friends and enjoy spectacular scenery while exercising. You should be fit enough to walk for 2-3 hours at a reasonable pace, mostly off road, along trails that can include steep slopes and slippery and uneven terrain. Suitable clothing and footwear is recommended.

  For information regarding a particular walk, please contact the leader for each walk listed.  We have different meeting places, so check before setting out!

  INFORMATION FOR IWP OUTDOOR GROUP ACTIVITIES
  Please bring your own: water, hat, clothing, walking poles, snack, mask and disinfectant to the group activity.

  PLEASE NOTE:

  1. Walk participants must be members of IWP.
  2. A guest may participate in no more than two Association activities or events before applying for membership and shall be informed of this when registering for any events or activities.
  3. The walk takes about 2-3 hours so plan accordingly.
  4. Wear practical footwear as terrain is most often uneven. If you use walking sticks bring them.
  5. Due to bad weather conditions or other reasons we may change the venue of a walk until Thursday before the walk, so check your email.
  6. Due to bad weather conditions (too wet or too hot as determined by the leader of the walk) or other reasons, a walk may be cancelled until 9:00 am the day of the walk. Please check your emails.
  7. Although we have different meeting places, the start is always at 10:30 am, until we change to a summer schedule. It will be announced and noted on the schedule.
  8. And about the dogs, you already know! Your dog must be kept on a leash. No stretch/flexi leashes are allowed. Poo pickup is a must!

  Between the Crescent and the Cross: the Iberian Peninsula under Islamic rule

  In this History Lovers Talk, we explore the centuries when much of the Iberian Peninsula formed part of the Islamic world known as Al-Andalus.

  We will look at the conquest, daily life, and relations between Muslim, Christian, and Jewish communities, as well as the transformations brought by the Christian advance and the formation of Portugal.

  Our journey will include key cities such as Silves and Mértola, as well as Córdoba and Granada, highlighting their political, cultural, and historical significance until the end of Islamic rule in 1492.

  As the oldest museum in the city, it is housed in a stunning palace-like building that formerly served as the Royal Arsenal. It offers a deep and enriching look into Portugal’s military history, from the historic battles since the Christian Reconquista period to World War I.

  It hosts one of the largest collections of bronze artillery pieces in the world. Additional collections are spread over 33 different rooms, which are architectural treasures in themselves, designed in a baroque style.

  Continue walking until you see another set of stairs -this will lead you to the restaurant.

  The São Francisco de Assis Association – Cascais (ASFA), founded in 1997, is dedicated to the health, protection, and well-being of abandoned or lost animals in Cascais.  ASFA has a veterinary medical centre exclusively for its animals and also provides support to families in situations of economic vulnerability.  ASFA strive every day to give each animal they take in an opportunity for a better life. 
  

  We are happy to present this interactive event, enjoy a cup of coffee and a snack while we learn how this unique organization helps animals. We will even have the opportunity to spend some time with the animals as we delight in a short walk with the dogs through a nature preserve where we may glimpse wild deer and Soraia horses.  If you love nature and animals, we think this is for you.

  Experience the quintessential Romantic ballet in Peter Wright’s atmospheric and bewitching production, Giselle, live in cinemas on Tuesday, March 3. Ballet enthusiasts in Cascais and Lisbon can avail of live streaming shows from the Royal Ballet and Opera in London. 

  The supernatural power of Giselle makes it one of the best balletic examples of the 19^th century Romantic genre. Set to Adolphe Adam’s score, this production conjures up two distinctly vivid realms transporting audiences from the pastoral idyll of Act I to the menacingly moonlit graveyard of Act II as the tragic story of love, betrayal, and redemption unfolds. Choreography is by Marius Petipa, with production and additional choreography by Peter Wright.

  The event captains for Cascais and Lisbon will contact registrants directly regarding preferred seating  and a group meal before the ballet for those who are interested.
