  Most sessions played are "Chicago" and the system is ´5 Card Major´.  No partner required, table numbers are drawn so that individuals get to know each other whilst they play, or allocated according to ability and experience.  A small charge to cover the room hire is payable for each session attended.  Contact Claire to find out more or to book a place - sign up is required to ensure there are four on each of the tables available.

  Guided tour of the Convento dos Cardaes in Lisbon:

  The Convent of Cardaes was founded in the XVII century to accommodate a community of carmelite nuns who lived in seclusion.

  It is one of the religious houses that survived the big 1755 earthquake and preserves its entire artistic heritage which includes one of the world's biggest collection of XVII century Dutch tiles still in it's original place.

  Nowadays the Convent is a residence for women whith special needs, whose living conditions are assured by a dominican community.

  Opera at the Cinema “ Siegfried”

  Moments of transcendent beauty and heroic triumph sparkle in the third chapter of Wagner’s Ring cycle, Siegfried, brought to life under Director Barrie Kosky’s inspired eye, following his spectacular Das Rheingold (2023) and Die Walküre (2025). Kosky teams up with Conductor Antonio Pappano, who draws out the unspoken tensions and ethereal mysticism of Wagner’s dynamic score. Andreas Schager, in his much-anticipated debut with The Royal Opera, stars as Siegfried’s titular hero.

  Opera enthusiasts in Cascais and Lisbon can now avail of shows in London through the wonder of live streaming on local cinema screens. Join your fellow IWP members for Opera at the Cinema.

  The event captains for Cascais and Lisbon will contact registrants directly regarding preferred seating and a group meal before the opera for those who are interested.

  Please join us on Thursday, April 9 for a day trip by bus to the beautiful Arrabida Convent followed by a guided tour including a wine tasting at the José Maria Fonseca winery in Azeitão. 

  Nestled in the beautiful Arrabida National Park, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this 16th-century Franciscan convent is one of Portugal’s hidden gems. Built into the mountainside as a retreat for monks seeking silence and contemplation, the complex of small chapels, hermit cells, and peaceful terraces offers breathtaking views and a unique glimpse into a life of simplicity and spirituality. 

  Located in the charming village of Azeitão, José Maria da Fonseca House & Museum is one of Portugal’s most historic wineries. Founded in 1834 and still family-owned today, it offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the country’s wine traditions, from centuries-old cellars to the famous Moscatel de Setúbal—naturally ending with a  wine tasting.

  Our private bus will depart near the Alcântara-Mar train station at 9:30 AM sharp. The drive to the Convento da Arrábida will take about one hour, where we will enjoy a guided tour in English lasting approximately two hours.

  After the visit, we will continue by bus to Azeitão, where you will have free time for lunch. The village offers many restaurant options and is a popular spot for visitors.
  

  We will then visit José Maria da Fonseca House & Museum for a one-hour guided tour of the historic winery, including an optional wine tasting.

  Before heading back, we will stop at the traditional Pastelaria Cego, where you will have the opportunity to purchase the famous local specialty, the Tortas de Azeitão.
