Morning Tour of the British Cemetery and St Georges Church

Surrounding St George’s Church lies the beautiful and historic British Cemetery, dating from the early 1700’s.  Existing well before the church was built, it was the result of many years of negotiation to get permission to bury the dead of the Protestant merchants living in Portugal. 

Our guided tour begins with an introduction to the cemetery's origins, shedding light on its historical significance. As you wander round its paths, our guide will provide us with an insight into different associations between Portugal and its foreign communities over the centuries . Bringing to life the remarkable stories of the more notable and interesting individuals laid to rest here,  to captivate and inspire our visitors.
