About IWP
Since 1991, International Women in Portugal has brought women of many nationalities, ages, and experiences together across the Lisbon region, including Cascais, Estoril, and Sintra, to build friendships, explore Portugal, and create community.
Our story
IWP is a member-led, multicultural, non-profit, social, apolitical association for women. Our aim is to give members the opportunity to express their ideas, use their talents, and enrich their lives through their contribution to both the Association and the local community.
English is our operating language, and our members represent many nationalities and cultures. We welcome women of all ages and nationalities, whether they have just arrived, have lived here for many years, or are returning after time abroad.
Through activities, social gatherings, and shared experiences, members find familiar faces, new interests, and a stronger sense of belonging in Portugal.
What brings us together
IWP is shaped by the friendships, curiosity, and contributions of its members.
Make friends through social gatherings, interest groups, and the ordinary pleasure of spending time with other women.
Discover Portugal through guided visits, walks, cultural outings, talks, and excursions shared with good company.
Share your knowledge, ideas, and talents. Help shape IWP through your participation and contribute to the local community.
Exploring Portugal together
From palaces and museums to historic neighbourhoods and day excursions, IWP members have spent more than three decades discovering Portugal together.
Queluz, Mafra, Sintra, Ajuda, and hidden architectural treasures.
Art, archaeology, decorative arts, transport, and Portugal's many stories.
Historic streets, remarkable women, architecture, industry, and local life.
Évora, Coimbra, Estremoz, Vila Viçosa, and destinations across Portugal.
Different stories. Shared belonging.
“One of the most wonderful things about IWP is that it is big enough to contain all of us.”
Some members have lived all over the world; others are experiencing life in another country for the first time. We bring different languages, cultures, histories, and perspectives. What connects us is the recognition that friendship makes joy richer, challenges lighter, and a new country feel more like home.
