Britta started life in Germany. She left in her early twenties and has since navigated many international moves. She lived, studied, and worked in the USA, the UK, Belgium, South Africa, and Canada. Raising her three children was Britta’s prime focus for many years, daring her to be creative to accommodate the busy family, its many relocations, and her husband’s international career.
Britta’s professional work ranged from academia in the US and UK, Marketing relocations services in Belgium, to running a boutique hotel in Cape Town. Finally, Britta led several Canadian charities as Executive Director and served as a volunteer board director for 15 years in the areas of strategic planning, governance, and as a professional fundraiser.
Britta has been married to Trevor, a Brit who grew up in South Africa, for over 30 years. Their three adult children live in Seattle, Toronto, and London.
Driven by a desire to return to Europe to be closer to (some) family, Trevor and Britta moved to Portugal in June 2020, in the middle of a pandemic. They have settled in beautiful Malveira da Serra, where they are building a new life and enjoy so much of what makes Portugal delightful. Britta loves sunshine, the outdoors, hiking, sharing good food with people she loves, learning languages (learning Portuguese from scratch is certainly a challenge!), and travel.
Britta has enjoyed supporting the board of the IWP as Acting Vice President since January 2021.
