Anja emigrated with her family from Germany to South Africa and completed her schooling and University studies in Durban. Her first career was as a high school teacher, but she soon put down the chalk to join her husband’s legal firm. With the help of the firm’s auditors, she became the accountant and, as the practice grew, took over as general manager.
She decided to expand her business skills and completed her MBA part time at the UKZN Westville Graduate School of Business & Leadership. She left the legal environment to join a tech start-up offering computer training in computer graphics and web design. This move meant new skills in sales and marketing.
In 2006 she left South Africa to live in the UK. She joined VSO UK as a volunteer. This offered a once in a lifetime experience of working for two years as a business consultant at vocational centres serving disabled adults in Hanoi and Hue, Vietnam.
Her daughter and son-in-law joined her in Hue. The family founded a design studio and continued with this business after leaving Vietnam. Typical digital nomads style the family has lived in Spain, Malta, Germany and now hopes to settle in Lisbon. Time to unpack those bags!
